Model Train Set - How to avoid derailments
Have you been aggravated by his model cars derail regularly ?....
and then after fixing that section of track just to happen again in a different section the next day!
If you like me and have spent much quality time assembling your Model Train set, this can be very frustrating.
Well, the good news is that you do not have to give up his hobby, because there are some simple steps you can take it back to enjoy his toy train, and looks like an expert on how to prevent derailments!
For model train enthusiasts (especially beginners), is quite the dream of having a good circulation of the train set. Stick to these steps and you will not is so difficult.
Here are some tips to avoid derailment:
Level of the track ..... This may sound obvious, but you be surprised how many people (beginners) do not have a level track. Make sure that all parts of the track is aligned and fit properly.
This is the # 1 cause of derailments! Check each item to verify the difference is so minimal as possible.
The pros actually weld seams and then use a small file for a continuous smooth track. This will avoid any problem arising expansion and contraction.
Tread ..... gauge wrong is another cause of derailment. If the wing the wheels go up and off the track.
Too wide and the wheels may not address the issue properly and derailed. So be sure to check the indicator on the joints, turnouts and frog assemblies.
If necessary adjust the display, simply heating rail with a soldering iron and let it cool down after moving to the right position.
Switching points ..... points to release the switch often strong in the mobile section which is brought against the rails.
Sometimes this will cause the wheel to get hooked and the car goes off track. Take a small file to smooth the switching points (moving).
This will allow a smooth transition. Always check the indicator too.
Couplers ..... new cars often come with polished couplers. Inspect them, care for the rough edges, and if necessary adjust them for good focus.
..... Wheelsets Another cause of the derailment. Inspect the wheel set by checking the alignment, width and moving freely.
Also check that cars are not crabs pushing wheel flange to the stud.
Add extra weight ..... The freight cars are known to be a light, which prevents the wheels to make good contact with the rails.
Add a little weight to the cars to cure this problem. Try adding weight as low and so close to the center of gravity as possible.
Lubrication ..... The slightest objection to a wheel or a hook, or any of its parts that need easy lubrication can cause a derailment.
Do not use more oil than you need, as it attracts dust and can damage the paint.
It really just comes down to a little maintenance. Now learn how to prevent derailments and enjoy your model train set the way it was meant to be.
