Carpal tunnel: the high-power laser therapy for those trying to avoid surgery
Carpal tunnel syndrome accounts for approximately 50% of all work-related injuries. Many patients suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome are not aware that the high-power laser therapy is an effective noninvasive treatment option and not for those who suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome. Laser therapy has been shown to increase bone cartilage repair, reducing scar tissue, reducing inflammation, increase circulation, increased angiogenesis (new blood vessels formed), and regenerating nerve fibers, and increase production ATP (energy). This unique aspect of therapy with high-power laser is its ability to penetrate deep enough to treat the target tissue (hard and nerves spinal). The procedure is noninvasive and painless. It requires no preparation needed for the procedure. The patient drives to the office to get their treatments and units housing.

OBJECTIVES: Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most common neuropathy can be diagnosed with confidence by nerve conduction study (NCS). One of the recent treatment of CTS is the application of low power laser (LPL) therapy. This study evaluates the effects of irradiation through LPL NCS and clinical signs and symptoms. METHODS: A total of 80 patients were included in this study. The diagnosis of CTS was based on both clinical examination and electromyographic (EMG) findings. Patients were randomized into two groups. test group (group A) underwent laser therapy (9-11 joules/cm2) on the carpal tunnel area. The control group (group B) received sham laser therapy. The pain, the strength of hand grip, the median latencies proximal sensory and motor nerve conduction Transcarpal sensory medium (SNCV) were recorded. After fifteen sessions of irradiation (five times per week) parameters were recorded again and clinical symptoms were measured in both groups. Pain was assessed by Visual Analogue Scale (VAS, day and night). Handle dynometer was measured by Jamar. Paired t-test and independent samples t test was used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: There was a significant improvement on clinical symptoms and grip in group A (p <0.001). Proximal sensory median latency, distal motor latency mean and median sensory latencies were significantly reduced (p <0.001). Transcarpal SNCV medium increased significantly after laser irradiation (p <0.001). No changes significant in group B, except for changes in clinical symptoms (p <0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Laser therapy as a new conservative treatment is effective in CTS treatment of paresthesias and numbness and improves the power of the subjects of the handle and electrophysiological parameters.

Tunnel Syndrome carpal (CTS) is an entrapment neuropathy of the median nerve at the wrist. It is one of the peripheral nerve disorders more common. The cause of idiopathic CTS remains unclear. The diagnosis of CTS is still mainly clinical. open carpal tunnel release is the standard treatment. This study was to evaluate the effectiveness of low level laser therapy (LLLT) for CTS compared to standard open carpal tunnel release surgery. Of the 54 patients, 60 complained of symptomatic CTS hands were divided into two equal groups. Group A, was subjected to LLLT helium-neon (He-Ne) laser (632.8 nm), while group B was treated by open approach to carpal tunnel release. Patients were evaluated clinically and by nerve conduction studies (NCS) near 6 months after treatment. LLLT showed overall significant results but at a lower level in relation to surgery. LLLT showed significant results in all parameters of subjective complaints (p <or = 0.01) with the exception of weakness. Moreover, LLLT showed significant results in all parameters of findings targets (p <or = 0.01), except for thenar atrophy. However, NCS said the same statistical significance (p <or = 0.01) after treatment by both modalities. LLLT has proven an effective treatment modality for noninvasive CTS especially for early and mild to moderate cases when pain is the symptom main presentation. However, surgery may be preserved for advanced and chronic cases. Improvement of laser instruments and the introduction of other wavelengths could LLLT for CTS treatment of a new research field.

Abstract Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of splints, ultrasound (U.S.), and low level laser therapy (LLLT) in the treatment Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). Background Data: CTS is the most common entrapment mononeuropathy in clinical practice, and is caused by compression the median nerve at the wrist. Despite several treatment modalities are commonly in use, there is no consensus on how best to treat CTS. Materials and Methods: Patients were randomly assigned to three groups and treatment protocols used the following in each group: only splinting, splints, more U.S. and splinting LLLT more. Patients were evaluated with the Boston questionnaire, research patient satisfaction, visual analog scale for pain, and electroneuromyography. Results and Conclusion: The study was completed in a total of 100 hands of 50 female patients with bilateral CTS at 3 months after starting treatment. At the end of follow-up, patients in the three groups had improved at different rates. The combination of U.S. LLLT with splints and was more effective than splinting alone in the treatment of CTS. However, LLLT more splint is more effective than U.S. plus splints, particularly in reducing the severity of symptoms, and pain relief and patient satisfaction.
