Acer Aspire laptop TimelineX 5820TG

The last time I reviewed a laptop "> Acer Aspire notebook timeline - the 4810T 14in, we tried to mid 2009 - we were impressed. This time we in our hands the new Acer Aspire TimelineX 5820TG, a laptop equipped with a screen of 15.6. We believe that Acer has another winner on its hands: 5820TG is equipped with an excellent keyboard, a decent CPU Core i5 and video cards. It offers almost everything you want in a notebook is not aimed at business users, but even going to provide decent performance when playing. Even business users should be happy, unless you need an ExpressCard slot or advanced security.

You can switch between the graphics adapter by right-clicking on the desktop and select Configure Switchable Graphics. The idea is to use the Intel chip when you are interested in prolonging battery life and card ATI if you want to play some games.

The battery lasted about three hours in our battery test when using Intel graphics, when using the ATI card that lasted 2 hours 32min. Both results are excellent for a notebook of this size, for comparison, the Dell Inspiron 15R lasted only 2 hours 20min in the same test. The difference between the results of the Aspire 5820TG TimelineX when using Intel graphics, and using ATI graphics may not seem huge, but our test is designed to drain the battery as soon as possible. We conducted the test by disabling power management, increase brightness screen that allows wireless internet, then a loop a Xvid video file. In the real world is likely to get a little more * juice from the caboose to use this laptop, if you employ a conservative power scheme.

Acer Aspire TimelineX: gaming performance

The LED backlit display is a good size for watching movies in your room, but the vertical viewing angles are not impressive. You probably want to connect a pair of headphones however: portable speakers are nothing special despite boasting "Dolby Home Theater Virtual Surround Sound."

All ports of the laptop are on the side: Headphone and microphone, VGA / D-Sub, Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI and four USB 2.0 ports. There is also a DVD burner on the right side and a card reader SD in the front. As expected, 802.11n Wi-Fi is also included, along with Bluetooth. There is also an integrated webcam. The HDMI port is particularly welcome: lets you connect to a TV, so if you live in a small apartment can use a laptop as your home entertainment center.

The Acer Aspire 5820TG TimelineX achieves a compromise between ease of use and portability that does not fit all - not exactly an ultraportable laptop or netbook. If you're buying a notebook for a student only leave home to go to college, we thought it a great choice. It's so convenient to use as a desktop replacement on a large scale as the 17.3in Dell Vostro 3700 - are not trying to write too much on long assignments. If you get a decent sized bag and have no textbooks to the basket too all think you will also be able to use in a lecture to take notes (or browse your favorite web sites) without any problems.
