Model Railway Sets Provide The Ideal Escape To A Whole New World
When I mention that I build model railway sets to people, many of them will start recalling stories from their childhoods about the fond times they had with their own model railway trains when they were young. The memories that we have of the fun times we spent driving our favourite locomotive wagon as it travelled along on it's imaginary journey, which we created for it in our minds. This is just one example of how model railway sets provide us with an escape to a whole new world.
Now when I use my model railroad, I am not so much driving my model railway trains in an imaginary world, like I was when I was a child. Instead it is one that is more real, with this illusion having been created by the detailed Model Train scenery I have built around my model railroad.
In a world where everything is so much more about rushing from here to there, busy, busy, busy all the time, it can be such a good feeling to kick back in my chair and drift of into my 1950's recreation railroad and imagine what it must have been like back then.
It's a whole world away from sitting on the morning commute to work, wishing I didn't have to go to the office that day and face those deadlines. Instead, I am able to imagine that I'm on a train on an exciting journey through a quaint little sleepy mountain village town, on my way to, well anywhere I like really.
Having not being able to travel much myself recently due to various commitments, this freedom to just hop on my own train whenever I want and travel off into this imaginary world is the perfect escape from everyday life. Sure, you may just say I could watch the television to do this, but there's something more connected with driving my model railway trains.
The fact that I am actually involved in it, controlling where the train goes on the layout, where is stops at the different stations etc., rather than just sitting staring at a box in the corner, seems to make it more real and like I'm actually there. I guess it's like the way that reading a book draws you in by involving you imagination to create the images of what is happening, as opposed to showing it straight to you as television does. The problem is, I've never been much of a reader myself!
Model railway sets are a great way from children and adults alike to both get creative and learn a great set of skills (if you begin to build you own layouts and scenery or wire more complex plans), plus also, unleash their imaginations to escape on a journey of discovery. I'd recommend the model railway hobby to anyone and everyone as it has given me so many years of satisfaction.
