Lurbicating Lionel trains?
I took my old Lionel train when I was a child a couple of months ago, and I've been working on its restoration. I basically finished, now all you have to do is to lubricate the motors and gears. Is there a safe lubricant that I have to use? I know Lionel lubricant ago, but all the local hobby shops, and I'm not too fond of ordering online (identity theft.) are If it's any help, these are the trains that I have (All of the "postwar" era): 671 (6-8-6 Steam Engine) 1948 2026 (2-6-4 steam engine) from 1953 to 2056 (4-6-4 steam engine) from 1952 6110 (2-4-2 steam engine) from 1950 to 2344 (F3 ABA Diesel units) in 1952. For engines which have, in oil 3 and a good white lithium grease works well. Labelle Lubricants are the last to work on trains or other small engines mania. They are high quality, fully synthetic strong plastic, and the oils come in a convenient "needle oiler" bottle. If you are going to be doing this much, I'd recommend checking your local hobby shop for products Labelle. They are expensive, but they are the best out there. Cook-E-Lube of forest landscape is almost as good and less expensive. The important points to remember is that less is more, and keep oil out of electrical contact surfaces. In most cases, the amount of oil to a pin carried out is sufficient for each lubrication point. Make especially sure to keep the oil from the face of the switch. Then response of 00 Very, very bad advice. Motor oil is too thick, and gum things up more than it will help lubricate. Trains run at room environment, not 200 degrees Fahrenheit as automobile engines. The use of a car oil in a small electric motor will cause more problems than solutions. The oil lubrication Lionel supplied equipment in the 50 and 60 was renamed 3-in-1 oil.
