Lionel Trains Set
I have an old Lionel train set that I got when I was a kid in the 50's. Is the size of a whole, not HO style that became popular. What is my best option to discover the value of the set, and what would be the most effective way to market?
Well, there are two parts to your question. For one thing, best way to discover the value. There are several different ways you can go about doing this, but is faster and easier find a local hobby shop that sells trains. Call and ask if you can put together in an evaluation. Usually more than happy to see your game and give you a ballpark estimate. If you do not want to do that there are several collector books on the market that will give a price range, again the easiest way to get these is the hobby shop. I would not tell them that you are looking to sell since they could lower the rating of the estimated price to get a better deal. I know people at my hobby shop and would not, but that's not to say that others do not. Unfortunately, the business is not as profitable as others, and some owners look to find the greatest possible profit. For the second part of your question, where to sell. Ebay is probably your best bet to get the price you want out of it. You may have to wait for the right bidder, but it will come. The images you have and the more detail you can provide help. When you use Ebay make sure that the factor in the cost of shipping, and payment method (assuming paypal). Beyond that, the Hobby Shop may be interested in purchasing items from you. Usually offered a bit less than what it's worth, just because they want to make a profit. The Hobby Shop also must be able to get in touch with the people in your area that are collectors. These people will pay the market value, but might want to buy piece by piece. Good luck with your sale.
