Building A Train Layout

Why is this happening in my game; Trainz Railway Simulator 2004?
When I am building my own railway layout on Trainz Railway Simulator 2004 the track doesn't seem to connect together properly.
The ground is flat, the track I am using is the same type, but when I try to join two pieces of track together, they join but there seems to be a break in it. So when I try to drive my trains over the track, they de-rail over that piece of track.
If anyone has played this game or an eariler verson who knows what is going on with it, I would be greatfull if you could give me some info on this. Thanks.
I'm not a Trainz user, but I AM in the middle of creating routes for "Rail Simulator" from another manufacturer...
With that program, if the track doesn't connect properly, there is a tool called "Join" which will allow the two sections of track to be welded. Also, during track-laying... there is a visual indicator of improper connections.
I have spent HOURS on the Rail Simulator forum site picking up helpful tidbits and data... here is a link to the Trainz Railroad Simulator website: http://www.auran.com/TRS2004/default.htm
I HOPE they will have information there that will help you.
GOOD LUCK, I'm in the midst of creating the 200-ish miles of track in the San Francisco/ San Jose / Stockton area of California.
