Train travel has always evoked romantic memories among the millions who use its services. And when the roads and services on board are top quality, experience can really be a pleasure. Amtrak has certainly tried to do this with more than thirty routes in the U.S. and Canada making rail travel a viable option for your next vacation. The wonder of flight service and excellent accommodation promises you and your family at times well together.
While air travel may be shorter in duration, places one sees from 'up there' are clouds and more clouds, while on a train, you can see the field material flowing past you, different types of farm animals, people and places of interest while passing through town. It is the ideal choice for people afraid of flying. Somehow, there's nothing like a train ride to set the tone for a perfect holiday.
Trains also offer something that virtually no aircraft can offer, especially in long distance travel - accommodation that is compared with good hotels and F & B service game. You can make use of the private suites if your budget allows or not semi private bunk where the whole family can snuggle after a good meal in the dining car. The suites can accommodate four adults comfortably and the rocking motion of the train is guaranteed to lull to sleep.
Amtrak policy allows you to consider five pieces of luggage - two of them with you in your suite or compartment and three in the baggage car. Baggage weighing more fifty pounds will not be allowed in the chamber and must be registered Bicycles are allowed! As in any public transport, luggage will to go through security checks before being loaded, and have their list of "banned" items as well, similar to air travel. Again such as air transport, there are different classes of seats. Acela Express and Metroliner are more expensive but offer more seats and more facilities for regular seats. This is not recommended for the budget traveler.
When traveling with young children, trains could be the ideal choice. While the duration is greater than by air, the child has plenty of activities to participate, while aboard a train. Not the least of them seeing the different cities and towns as they roll by, something that no textbook can show geography. They have the room to move unlike a plane, and this itself can be a blessing for parents.
While planning your next vacation, consider traveling by train, may not sound as glamorous as air travel, but think of the benefits you and your family will enjoy a much lower price and also quality of time that your family will spend together. In general, you will find that travel by train not only keeps the family together, but also develops the bond for the duration of the journey which is not air travel can be replicated.
